I have always been very inquisitive by nature, a born problem-solver. The allure of solving problems as a career investigator always particularly stuck out to me, along with the added benefit of having an opportunity to be a positive part of someone's life.
However, as I grew older and life seemed to happen all at once, the dreams of being an investigator were replaced with every day duties of being a young adult, and eventually a wife and mother. This forced me to get a job that was more in-line with my experience and age. The older I got the more out of reach a career as an investigator seemed.
I never gave up hope though. I would routinely take courses related to being an investigator, or related to the forensic aspects of investigations. By my mid-30s I realized that I was waiting around for a day to act on my dreams and my goals that may never come.
So I stopped waiting.
The first step I took was getting licensed as an investigator in Colorado. I then decided to open my own agency, as I believed a career in the private sector would give me the flexibility I was looking for, and allow me to progress and gain experience as quickly as I liked. I was able to get a foot in the door in the private investigation world in Northern Colorado, and through networking and good ol' fashioned hard work, I was able to build a respectable client base. I have enjoyed every minute of work as a private investigator, there is no greater feeling than giving someone the answers they're looking for, or reuniting family members, or brining closure to someone that is desperate for it. My advice to anyone looking to shoot for their dreams would be; DO IT! Don't wait, don't hesitate, life will pass you by while you're waiting for 'the perfect time,' it doesn't exist! Life is what you make it so make it great!
